MINERAL WELLS —
Using a description of a suspect and the getaway vehicle, Mineral Wells police were quickly able to find and arrest a man Thursday morning after he allegedly robbed a Mineral Wells store.
Shawn Dwaine Allen, 21, of Lipan, was arrested for aggravated robbery for allegedly brandishing a knife when caught in the act of shoplifting at a business in the 600 block of Farm-to-Market Road 1821 North.
Allen was reportedly in the process of cutting open a cellphone package when confronted by store personnel, police said.
“That’s when he displayed the knife,” Mineral Wells Police Lt. Brad Belz said.
Allen reportedly said something to the employee before he left.
A store employee told the Index she saw a man and woman leaving the store followed by a loss prevention officer.
Within minutes of receiving the call around 11 a.m., officers were on the lookout for a short, white male wearing a blue shirt riding as a passenger in a gray Cadillac with a missing wheel cover.
Moments later an officer found a car and suspect matching that description pulling into the parking lot of a restaurant in the 100 block of S.E. 25th Avenue.
Allen was arrested and the phone recovered, police said. A bond for Allen had not been set as of Thursday afternoon.
Police do not believe the woman who drove the car from the business was present during the robbery and she was not charged.
