The City of Mineral Wells did not realize a double-digit increase in its August sales tax disbursement as it has in recent months, but it did see a gain and that is good news.
The state comptroller’s office sent the city a sales tax collections check that was 2.7 percent over its August 2011 check. Since Jan. 1, the city is collecting sales taxes at a pace 12.26 percent ahead of last year during the same period.
Mineral Wells assesses a 1.5-cent levy on taxable retail sales. Sales taxes represent the single largest revenue source for the city.
Strawn continues to collect at a pace nearly double its 2011 collections. Mingus showed a slight gain in its August check, but continues to see sales tax collections on the year about half of its 2011 collections.
