Jonathan Leotis Willis, 32, of Mineral Wells was killed Wednesday evening when he was struck while riding his 2008 Yamaha motorcycle east in the 800 block of S.W. 16th Street around 5:55 p.m.
Police said Edmundo Zapata Jr., 18, of Mineral Wells, was driving a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta the opposite direction and made a left turn onto S.W. 7th Street in front of Willis.
Willis, who was not wearing a helmet according to reports, struck the Jetta's windshield before being thrown about 37 feet and colliding with a wrought iron mailbox brace.
Willis was pronounced dead at Palo Pinto General Hospital at 6:34 p.m.
Investigators listed driver inattention on the part of Zapata as a contributing factor in the collision, noting Willis’ excessive speed may have also contributed. As of Thursday, no charges were filed against Zapata, who was uninjured.
