State resources gave local firefighters a reprieve from the ongoing battle against two major wildfires that began last week as the result of lightning strikes.
Gov. Rick Perry issued a press release Sunday, announcing his activation of Texas Military Forces aircraft and personnel to assist in the battle against the growing fires.
“As wildfires rage, we will continue to support our communities and first responders with any state resources that are available,” Perry stated. “Texas is thankful to the brave men and women who are battling these fires on the front lines in order to protect the homes and property of the people of Palo Pinto County.”
An aerial survey conducted Monday morning showed the Dark Valley Fire has consumed more than 1,700 acres and the Rhodes Ranch II Fire was slightly smaller at about 1,694 acres.
