  • Mineral Wells residents can find out where registered sex offenders live in the city and surrounding area, as shown above, by using CrimeReports.com. Selecting one of the icons will provide a name, age, address, photo and physical description of the registered offender. Users of the website can also sort the interactive map to see all reported crimes in the city by the type of offense or offenses during a selected time period. Clicking an icon will provide additional info such as the location of the offense and date and time it occurred. Users can also set up crime alerts to monitor nearby activity. There is also a smart phone application. Search for Crime Reports.

Helpline offers local sex offender tips, info

The National Megan’s Law Helpline has recently expanded its services to include a Sex Offenders Registration Tips Program.

According to Parents for Megan’s Law Executive Director Laura A. Ahearn, callers to the 24-hour toll-free number can speak with a consultant trained in various aspects of sexual abuse and violent crime.

Callers can reach the helpline, which has provided nationwide assistance to victims of sexual or violent crimes for several years, by calling (888) 275-7365, she said, explaining the information is also available online at www.parentsformeganslaw.org.

“What evolved from the helpline is that people in the community might not know what to do when they see a registered sex offender ... in a position of trust where it might not be appropriate,” she explained.
