Health and awareness were key goals of Friday’s annual Mineral Wells Senior Center Expo, but were just some of the event’s many offerings.
Sponsored by the Mineral Wells Senior Center, in partnership with First Baptist Church and Palo Pinto General Hospital, the event drew 37 exhibitors and 122 registered participants.
These included the likes of 96-year-old Mineral Wells resident Sterling Smith, who has lost his sight but walked through the First Baptist Church gym and boasted about having a blood pressure of 120-over-69.
“I’m a teenager,” he said, quoting the PPGH technicians who took his vital signs at the expo.
Helping Sterling walk to each exhibit was Dyann Harris, a member of the Weatherford College Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Numerous staff and students of the two-year OTA program were on hand, serving as volunteers, helping exhibitors needing someone to sit temporarily at their booths, or by helping participants who needed assistance or items, such as water.
