Following a public hearing, Mineral Wells City Council could amend policy tonight on the placement of flags beside grave sites at Woodland Park Cemetery.
A joint meeting of the Woodland Park Cemetery Board and city council is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today in the City Hall Annex, 115 S.W. 1st St.
The issue of flags beside veterans grave markers became a national news topic last week through varied stories about the recently amended ordinance.
The ordinance, among other things, limited flags placed beside markers to two-week periods around Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Some news agencies erroneously portrayed it as an outright ban on flags at grave markers. That resulted in a flurry of Tweets and Facebook posts and a barrage of insults hurled at the city and officials.
