An annual event held to provide school supplies to local students in need returns Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m., at Mineral Wells Junior High School.
According to event coordinator Ellie Starr, about 1,000 students attended last year’s fair and a similar turnout is expected this weekend.
She said a struggling economy among other factors resulted in fewer donations this year, though.
“Donations didn’t come in this year like they had before,” Starr said. “Backpack donations are low this year. I’d like to have about 600 more.”
The fair provides “basic school supplies,” she explained, including “pens, pencils, folders, spiral notebooks, glue, those things.”
While backpacks represent the biggest need, Starr said anyone interested in making a donation of any kind can contact her at (940) 328-2066.
