DPS releases more details in I-20 pedestrian fatality

Department of Public Safety Trooper Gary Rozzell said no charges are being pursued against the driver involved in a deadly collision with a pedestrian Tuesday morning.

He said the crash was reported at 4:15 a.m. on Interstate 20, just over 8 miles east of Santo in Palo Pinto County.

According to reports, Antonio Ojea was driving a 2003 Buick eastbound on I-20 when he struck Sharlein Lee Walker, 22, of Richland Hills. Walker was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Todd Baker. Her body was transported to Baum-Carlock Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells, Rozzell added.

He said Walker's vehicle was disabled on the side of the road shortly before the collision, and noted she stepped out of the vehicle into the roadway when she was hit by Ojea.

Road conditions were unfavorable, Rozzell said, explaining rain and time of day contributed to low visibility.

Ojea's vehicle was disabled from the crash, he added, and came to a stop about 100 yards east of the impact.

Rozzell said Walker was wearing dark clothing and, under the circumstances, Ojea would likely have not been able to see her.

Trooper Travis Alewine investigated the crash, he said, and was assisted by several other troopers.
