Index wins one first place, other press honors

Newspaper claims first place for news writing

SAN ANTONIO – The Mineral Wells Index received one first place award and other honors in the 2012 Texas Better Newspaper Contest sponsored by the Texas Press Association.

The awards were announced Saturday at TPA's executives’ retreat in San Antonio. TPA said this year 169 newspapers submitted 1,703 entries in the contest. The contest is broken down into 10 divisions in which newspapers compete against papers of similar circulation size. The Index competed with daily newspapers with paid circulations up to 7,000.
