Grab gun, run

Cops say man stole gun, fled

By CHRIS AGEE

Mineral Wells police officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of N.E. 2nd Street Friday in reference to a stolen gun.

Authorities later recovered the firearm but the suspect remained at large as of Monday, according to reports.

A complainant told police the incident began with the proposed sale of a firearm, noting he showed the gun to the suspect and laid it down momentarily to retrieve a bill of sale for the purchase.

When the complainant returned, he reported both the gun and the suspect were gone.

Officers located an automobile matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle and initiated a traffic stop, police said.

When officers approached the vehicle, though, reports indicate the driver was no longer inside.

According to police, investigators later received information the suspect might be in a local residence and officers quickly responded to that address.

Police arrived in time to see an individual believed to be the suspect fleeing from the rear of the home, a MWPD spokesperson added.

Upon a search of the home, officers were able to locate a firearm matching the description of the one stolen from the N.E. 2nd Street location.
