One weekend left to help through Salvation Army

By LIBBY CLUETT

PALO PINTO COUNTY – The Salvation Army of Mineral Wells and Palo Pinto County is winding down its Red Kettle drive this holiday season, but citizens have another weekend to give.

Bell ringers will call in donations Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the following locations:

• Mineral Wells – Walmart, Metro Grocery, Tractor Supply Company and Sutherlands.

• Santo – Circle H Shell.

• Strawn – Mary's Café.

All the funds raised locally go toward providing goods and services within Palo Pinto County, noted Executive Director Ray Mays. Depending on funding, the Salvation Army can offer residents assistance with a variety of needs throughout the year. This can include help during fires, transportation assistance, utilities assistance, aiding people to get licensed for work, prescription assistance and the like.

“If we continue at the pace we've been at through this last weekend we should be right about where we wound up last year, which is great if you take into consideration the economy” Mays said. In addition to those hosting the Salvation Army Red Kettle this weekend, he said other businesses in the county helped by hosting the kettle drive.

These included The Trading Post at Possum Kingdom Lake, Fuzzy's Taco Shop and Bennett's Office Supply, which hosted the

kettle during the Mineral Wells Merchant's Association Christmas Parade.

Those who don't get a chance to drop money in a red kettle this Friday or Saturday, can give to the Salvation Army by sending a check to P.O. Box 861, Mineral Wells, Texas 76068.
