Mineral Wells Independent School District board members Tuesday signed a letter seeking to increase the buffer zone between area schools and package stores.
The move came one week after city council voted to table a special-use permit request for a package store located at 700 S.E. 6th Street, Suite C.
It is the third permit request filed with the city since voters approved off-premise liquor sales in May.
Council’s decision was based on opposition by representatives of the school district and a nearby church, who said the location was too close to their respective organizations.
