Officials offer safe trick-or-treating tips

By CHRIS AGEE

Local law enforcement hopes to make Wednesday night a safe and fun experience for the community's youth.

According to Mineral Wells Police Chief Dean Sullivan, there are several safety tips parents should remember before allowing their trick-or-treaters to make the rounds collecting candy.

"I think parents should advise their children to never enter into a stranger's home," he said. "Conversely, residents shouldn't invite children into their homes."

While visiting homes, Sullivan urged kids to stay in groups and always walk with a flashlight.

"Don't accept any rides from strangers," he cautioned.

Parents should set and enforce curfews for Halloween night, he said, and never allow children to leave without inspecting their costumes.
