About 150 students were awarded approximately 2,500 training hours during last weekend’s Annual North Central Texas Fire Protection School.
The event, sponsored by the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department, included representatives from 37 fire departments from across the state, a drop from last year’s 69.
In 2011, 226 students attended the school, earning a combined 3,136 training hours.
MWVFD Chief Joel Thompson said there was a reason for the reduced enrollment.
“It was a little bit smaller,” he said, explaining the death of his predecessor, Steve Perdue, last year left a huge void in the program.
