Book some time to go by library friends’ sale

By Michele Nations | Special to the Index

The Friends of the Boyce Ditto Library have a large book sale planned this week.

The Friends, a non-profit corporation, funnels donations of books, time, money, grants, memorials and dues to library enhancements above and beyond the budget supplied by the city.

The benefits include new children’s books and summer reading program events. The Friends also support the library by paying for the movie license fees allowing movies such as “Dark Shadows,” “Rock of Ages” and “Madagascar 3” to be shown on Friday afternoons and at special times. Popcorn is provided, but people bring their own drinks and snacks.

With the help of a grant from the Brazos Foundation, the Friends were able to give the library a digital work station consisting of a beautiful wooden cabinet with an imaging machine system, which includes a camera, scanner, viewer, and computer.
