At a special city council meeting Monday night, City Manager Lance Howerton presented the city’s proposed operating budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
In contrast to the past three years, Howerton expressed confidence the economic climate is improving locally and statewide, allowing for a more ambitious budget proposal.
Some factors leading to his optimistic forecast include a one percent drop in countywide unemployment, local business additions and expansions, increasing sales tax trends and a general fund balance of more than $4 million.
