Despite minimal evidence left at the scene, Mineral Wells police investigators were able to track down the suspected driver in a fatal hit-and-run collision within hours of the incident.
According to police records, Thomas Ray Johnson, 27, of Mineral Wells, was arrested around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday after allegedly hitting a cyclist early that morning in the 4300 block of U.S. Highway 180 East.
Sixty-year-old David Valtier, of Mineral Wells, died at the scene around 12:45 a.m., as he was riding his bicycle westbound along U.S. 180, on his way home from his second-shift job at Antelope Oil and Tool and Manufacturing.
