Police responding to a crash Monday afternoon in the 1100 block of S.E. 1st Street found a vehicle almost completely inside of Optical Depot.
Authorities indicated two occupants escaped serious injury when the Lincoln Navigator crashed into the brick building and came to rest atop the rubble.
One witness, Amy Cole, said she was working at a neighboring shop and saw the collision as it happened.
"It pulled up real slow," she said, explaining she soon "heard tires screeching and all we heard was a boom and screaming."
Jan Jacobson, another witness working in the building, described the incident as "the loudest crash [she] ever heard."
Jacobson said the vehicle was headed directly toward a coworker who was able to avoid being hit head-on by rolling her chair away.
As of Monday afternoon, the crash remained under police investigation.
