The City of Mineral Wells continues to see improvement in its sales tax collections, a sign of a recovering local retail sales economy.
The city levies a 1.5-cent sales tax on retail sales. Its July sales tax allocation from the State Comptroller's office reflects taxable retail sales made in May and reported to the state in June.
Mineral Wells' July disbursement was nearly 13 percent higher than its July 2011 check, while on the year collections are running nearly 14 percent ahead of last year's pace.
