Local DPS says driver fled county crash scene Saturday

By CHRIS AGEE

Local authorities say a vehicle was abandoned at the scene of a crash early Saturday morning in Palo Pinto County.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Gary Rozzell said the 2007 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck was discovered around 2 a.m. Saturday on Turkey Creek Road, just south of Pruitt Lane.

Rozzell said investigators determined the driver was traveling north and exited the roadway in a left-hand curve, striking several trees.

The vehicle is registered to Shiloah Boswell of Mineral Wells, Rozzell said, noting troopers continued to investigate the incident as of Tuesday afternoon.

The driver involved in another weekend crash told authorities he fell asleep before running off U.S. Highway 180 East early Saturday.

According to Rozzell, David Keith Ballard, 44, was driving his 2006 Ford F250 pickup truck in an eastbound lane of the highway about one-half mile east of Pleasant Valley Road.

He said Ballard drove off the roadway to the south and struck several trees before coming to rest facing east against a tree in the bar ditch.

The driver was not transported, Rozzell said.

In a third weekend crash, Rozzell said troopers responded to a one-vehicle rollover around 3:25 p.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 281, just south of Farm-to-Market Road 1195.

He said Christopher James Thompson, 27, was driving a 1992 Ford Explorer southbound on the highway and approached a truck trailer from the rear.

Reports indicate Thompson engaged the vehicle's brakes, causing it to skid and roll onto its roof, coming to a rest facing north.

Rozzell said neither the driver nor passenger, Margrett Ann Thompson, 54, were transported to a hospital from the scene.
