Mineral Wells Police Chief Dean Sullivan is asking locals to take proactive measures to prevent further vehicle burglaries in the community.
Over the past month, there have been 41 reported burglaries of vehicles, which seem to follow a recognizable pattern, Sullivan said.
“These are all crimes of opportunity,” he said, explaining culprits stick primarily to major thoroughfares and a couple of blocks on either side.
When he increased officer patrol of the areas hit first by the wave of burglaries, criminals “took their activities to another part of town,” generally migrating west along Hubbard Street and branching off onto connecting roads.
