Fire personnel continued to make progress in their battle against two major county fires Thursday, according to Texas Forest Service Public Information Officer Joe Kozlowski.
He noted containment percentages increased at both fire scenes while acreage destroyed by the flames held steady.
Estimates indicate the Dark Valley fire scorched about 1,745 acres while the Rhodes Ranch II fire, which was first reported Aug. 7, claimed just under 2,000. The Dark Valley fire was first observed Aug. 9.
“Everything is still looking good,” he said, noting that the Dark Valley Fire was reported as 100 percent contained late Wednesday evening. He said crews expected the fire to be completely under control by Thursday night.
