Liquor store permit request tabled

Request for third store meets opposition from school district, church

Council declined to vote on an agenda item regarding a specific use permit application to operate a package store at 700 S.E. 6th Street, Suite C.

Citing opposition from a nearby church and Mineral Wells ISD Superintendent Gail Haterius, who drafted a letter explaining the proposed location is close to a local school, the Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to forward the request to council without a recommendation.

Calvary Baptist Church, located at 708 S.E. 5th Street, collected at least 30 signatures in opposition to the proposed nearby package store, which members presented to the P&Z board.
