Pizza, games and fun recipe for new restaurant concept

Old School Pizza Co. plans to open Monday in former Shotgun’s location

By CHRIS AGEE

A group of local business partners is set to open a family-friendly pizza buffet and arcade in the former home of Shotgun’s Barbecue on N.E. 27th Avenue.

Brian Shoemaker said the idea for Old School Pizza Co. originated from his love of an iconic Metroplex pizzeria.

“We really liked Parton’s Pizza in Fort Worth,” he said, explaining he convinced cook Jody Parton to bring his recipes to Mineral Wells for the new venture.

“All the ingredients are fresh, nothing frozen,” Shoemaker noted, and Parton’s recipe calls for “homemade dough [and] homemade red sauce with spices.”

In addition to a business plan and talented cook, he said owners are bringing restaurant experience with them.

“A few of us are already in the restaurant business with Chicken Express,” Shoemaker said.

Parton told the Index his family has owned Parton’s Pizza since 1968 and has built up a faithful customer base by offering fresh ingredients and a diverse menu.

His family created a number of signature pizzas, including the bacon and tomato combination that won second-place in a Las Vegas contest, Parton said.

While offering the trademark thin-crust pizza found at Parton’s, Shoemaker said Old School Pizza Co. also adds a different dimension.

“We wanted to give Mineral Wells people a place to have birthday parties and that sort of thing,” he said, noting the size of the restaurant afforded the opportunity to add an arcade.

Parton said he is excited to be in Mineral Wells to help usher in a restaurant unlike any other the city has to offer.

“It’s not a chain; it’s not a franchise,” he said. “We make our sauce the old-fashioned way with fresh dough and top-quality ingredients.”

He explained guests can choose to visit pizza, salad and dessert buffet or order from the menu, which includes sandwiches and additional items.

Though still waiting on a few remaining deliveries, Shoemaker said the restaurant is nearing completion and anticipates opening Monday.
