Senior center seeks donations, shoppers, for yearly fundraiser

By CHRIS AGEE

Mineral Wells Senior Center’s annual Giant Garage Sale fundraiser begins Thursday and, according to Norene Moore, is shaping up to be a big success.

“This is a yearly event and this is larger than ever,” she said of the sale that goes through Saturday.

Still, she said volunteers are looking for additional merchandise to stock the three-day event, which takes place at the Mineral Wells Activity Center, located at 735 Hood Road in the Fort Wolters Industrial Park.

“It’s a fundraiser for us,” she said, explaining all revenue from the event will go towards funding the center’s future activities and operation.

“To bring stuff, just come out to the senior center and we’ll take care of it here,” she said.

The center is located at 102 N.W. 6th Avenue in Mineral Wells.

Individuals wishing to donate can also bring items directly to the site of the garage sale. Merchandise drop-offs began Monday and continue today from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Volunteers will be on hand to accept donations Wednesday, during the same times.

Shoppers paying a $10 admission fee will have an opportunity to be among the first to browse garage sale items during a two-hour early bird sale, beginning Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

The sale continues from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Admission on these days is free and open to the public.

Additionally, Moore said a bake sale will coincide with Friday’s garage sale.
