A Sad Good-Bye

It’s never easy to lose a loved one. No matter how we steel ourselves against impending loss, we’re never fully prepared for the moment of good-bye. For some reason, any bereavement seems more poignant when it comes during the holidays.

The Senior Center has been visited by death several times during this year, dear friends whose absences still leave voids in our lives. Now we find ourselves grieving again with the Christmas Eve loss of Barbara Tibbets. Barbara served as an officer on the center’s Board of Directors, but it is her regular presence at lunch, her ready smile and sweet, gentle spirit that we will miss most.

Tomorrow’s Birthday Party will close out our calendar of events for 2012. This has been a full year, touched with some sadness and yet characterized by joy. In spite of critical funding cuts which created ongoing financial challenges throughout the year, God has been faithful to supply our needs through the generosity of the Mineral Wells community. We are deeply grateful to the many people who supported our fundraisers and donated time, goods and money to keep us running.

The center has experienced steady growth since last January. We have added around 180 new registrants this year, and introduced some activities that will continue into 2013. Lord willing, we will continue to serve the senior adults of this county for a long time to come.

I you have not yet visited the Senior Center, why not make it your New Year’s resolution to stop by and see what we have to offer.

From all the participants and staff at Mineral Wells Senior Center, we wish you a new year filled with the richest of friendship, laughter and blessing.
