Of jails, crowbars, and affectionate friends

I spent much of last Friday morning in jail.      

Naturally I felt a pang of alarm when the Mineral Wells Merchants Association deputies showed up with a warrant for my arrest right in the middle of our baking contest set up. Things were a little hectic at the Senior Center anyway, and my being dragged away in the middle of it only increased the bedlam. However, I couldn’t bring myself to disappoint the capacity crowd that showed up to watch the arrest. So I allowed my hands to be tied (with an apron from our kitchen – the acting deputies forgot their handcuffs) and smiled for the line of cameras that suddenly appeared.
