— I’ve never seen a group of volunteers work any more busily or efficiently than our senior adults who are setting up for the Gigantic Garage Sale fundraiser that begins tonight. This may be our best sale ever. With furniture, appliances, clothes, shoes and accessories, linens and housewares all sorted and priced, we are ready to open the doors for our Early Bird sale at 5:30 this evening. To shop the Early Bird sale requires a $10 donation, but admittance is free from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, March 8, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. Come on out to the Activity Center across from the City Gym on old Fort Wolters for the best bargains in town.
Don’t forget the other activities scheduled for March at the Senior Center. We’ll hold our second-Friday dance as usual tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m..
This month’s third-Monday Movie Night, at 6 p.m. on March 18, will feature Irene Dunn and William Powell in “Life With Father.” Anyone is welcome to join us for a free soup and salad supper.
On Tuesday, March 19, we will partner with two other groups in hosting another free Progressive Dinner party. Palo Pinto Nursing and Rehab will serve appetizers at 4 p.m., then everyone will drive down to the Senior Center for the main meal at 5 p..m. and finish up with dessert at Lakewell House at 6 p.m. There will be door prizes as well as great food, so call the senior center at (940) 325-6470 to put your name on the list for a fun evening.
On Tuesday, March 26, we will be offering another AARP Defensive Driving Course from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost for AARP members is $12, and $14 for anyone else. There are limited spots available, so call or come in to sign up.
I am so grateful for all the help we’re receiving for our Garage Sale. In next week’s column I will be saying personal thank yous to all the groups and individuals who have given so much time and effort to help make this fundraiser a success.
