Mineral Wells Senior Center Schedule

The center, 102 N.W. 6th Ave., is open Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The phone number is (940) 325-6470.

Daily Lunch Menu
(Served at noon with a $3 donation, unless noted otherwise, 24-hour advance reservation requested.)
13 – Smothered pork chops.
14 – Brunch with pancakes.
17 – Open-faced turkey sandwich with gravy.
18 – Homemade pizza.
19 – Shredded beef taco.
20 – Loaded baked potato.
21 – Fried fish ($4.50).
24 – Navy beans and sausage.
25 – Chicken and dumplings
26 – Maple orange chicken.
27 – Chicken tetrazzini.
28 – Meatloaf.
Daily Activities
• Walking at the senior center (8 a.m.-9 a.m.)
• Coffee/newspaper/visiting.
• Shuffleboard/billiards.
• Exercise equipment/computers.
• Craftwork/puzzles.
• Table games.
Weekly Activities
Monday
• 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. – Cathy Torres, geriatric social worker, connecting with individuals and their families with resources and services. Call for appointment.
• 9-11 a.m. – Computer classes with Linda Gilley.
• 10 a.m. – Silver Notes practice at the senior center.
• 1-3 p.m. – Computer classes with Linda Gilley.

Tuesday
• 5:30-7 p.m. – dance lessons.
Wednesday
• 9 a.m. – Crafting and quilting.
• 9:30 a.m. – Bingo sponsored by IntegraCare.
• 1-2:30 p.m. – Community activities with Weatherford College orthopedic therapy assistant students.
Thursday
• 9 a.m. – Silver Steppers line dancing.
• 10 a.m. – Oil painting class with Dorothy Dowler.
• 11 a.m. – Range of Motion exercise.
• 1 p.m. – Wii bowling presented by Abbi Home Care.
Special Activities/Notes
• Friday, Sept. 14 – 6:30-9 p.m., dance with $3 admission. Refreshments served at break. All ages welcome.
• Monday, Sept. 17 – 6-8 p.m., Movie night. Free soup and salad bar.
• Wednesday, Sept. 18 – 11:30 a.m., health education presentation by Mineral Wells Nursing and Rehab.
• Friday, Sept. 21 – 9 a.m., Happy Feet foot care sponsored by IntegraCare. Call for appointment.
• Friday, Sept. 21 – 1-2 p.m., presentation by Janice Gable on preventing falls and fall-risk assessment.
• Tuesday, Sept. 25 – 5:30 p.m., CTSCTF board meeting.
• Wednesday, Sept. 26 – 11:30-noon, Musical Memories with Eddie Gilley.
• Friday, Sept. 28 – Birthday party sponsored by Waddy Best Value Pharmacy. The band plays at 10 a.m. with the birthday party recognition and door prizes at 11:30 a.m.

Ongoing Projects
• Blankets and Binkies service project collecting children/baby clothes and items for Child Protective Services.
• Collection of used cell phones. Place them in collection box between the office doors.

Moving forward, with thanks

I began sending out letters to potential Senior Expo sponsors and exhibitors last January. Now suddenly, after all these months of planning and working, the event is over and it will soon be time to start the process all over again.

Before I put the 2012 Senior Expo behind me, I want to say one last thank you to the many people who helped make this year’s event possible. As the liaison for First Baptist Church, Senior Adults Minister Ann Fidler and was invaluable in helping prepare the venue and driving the shuttle bus. Building maintenance supervisor Steve Richards set up tables and chairs, and Associate Pastor Andy Rodgers provided media support in the workshop rooms. We appreciate all their efforts and are grateful for First Baptist Church’s willingness to partner with us for the event.

    Activities begin with a 2-hour early-bird preview, tonight, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Shoppers paying a $10 admission fee will have an opportunity to be among the first to browse garage sale items.
