Daily Lunch Menu
(Served at noon with a $3 donation, unless noted otherwise, 24-hour advance reservation requested.)
4 – Beef stew.
5 – Brunch (10:30-11:30 a.m.), biscuits with gravy.
8 – Spaghetti and meat sauce.
9 – Meatloaf.
10 – Smothered pork chops.
11 – Oven-fried chicken.
12 – Cheese burgers with pickle.
15 – Chicken salad sandwich.
16 – Sausage and pinto beans.
17 – Chicken and dressing.
18 – Chili.
19 – Fried fish ($4.50).
22 – Beef tips and noodles.
23 – Philly steak sandwich.
24 – Lasagna.

Monday
• 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. – Cathy Torres, geriatric social worker, connecting with individuals and their families with resources and services. Call for appointment.
• 9-11 a.m. – Computer classes with Linda Gilley.
• 10 a.m. – Silver Notes practice at the senior center.
• 11 a.m. – Weatherford College Orthopedic Therapy Assistant Students Presentations.
• 1-3 p.m. – Computer classes with Linda Gilley.
• 2 p.m. – Exercise with Brenda Lee.

Tuesday
• Range of Motion exercise with Brenda Lee.

Wednesday
• 9 a.m. – Crafting and quilting.
• 9:30 a.m. – Bingo sponsored by IntegraCare.
• 12:30-2 p.m. – Community activities with Weatherford College orthopedic therapy assistant students.
• 2 p.m. – Exercise with Brenda Lee.

Thursday
• 9 a.m. – Silver Steppers line dancing.
• 10 a.m. – Oil painting class with Dorothy Dowler.
• 11 a.m. – Range of Motion exercise with Brenda Lee.
• 1 p.m. – Wii bowling presented by Abbi Home Care.
• 5 p.m. – free dance lessons.
• 6 p.m. – advanced dance lessons ($10).

Special Activities/Notes
• Friday, Oct. 5 – 9 a.m., Happy Feet foot care sponsored by IntegraCare. Call for appointment.
• Tuesday, Oct. 9 – 11-9:30 a.m., Health Check sponsored by Mineral Wells Medical Supply and Palo Pinto Home Health.
• Friday, Oct. 12 – 6:30-9 p.m., dance with $3 admission. Refreshments served at break. All ages welcome.
• Monday, Oct. 15 – 6-8 p.m., Movie night. Free soup and salad bar.
• Wednesday, Oct. 17 – 11:30 a.m., health education presentation by Mineral Wells Nursing and Rehab.
• Thursday, Oct. 18 – State fair trip. Bus leaves the senior center at 9 a.m., returns by 5 p.m. Admission free for ages 60 and over, $16 for those under 60. Bus fare is $20, with snacks and water provided.
• Friday, Oct. 19 – 9 a.m., Happy Feet foot care sponsored by IntegraCare. Call for appointment.
• Friday, Oct. 19 – presentation by Janice Gable on stroke and TBI.
• Friday, Oct. 26 – Birthday party sponsored by Waddy Best Value Pharmacy. The band plays at 10 a.m. with the birthday party recognition and door prizes at 11:30 a.m.
• Monday, Oct. 29 – 5:30 p.m., CTSCTF board meeting.
• Wednesday, Oct. 31 – Halloween party with games and costume contest, prizes.

Ongoing Projects
• Blankets and Binkies service project collecting children/baby clothes and items for Child Protective Services.
• Collection of used cell phones. Place them in collection box between the office doors.

I have a new granddaughter due to arrive in another couple of weeks. She’ll be the fourth girl out of nine grandkids. The closer her delivery date draws, the stronger my urge to roam the infant sections of local department stores. I think I’ve bought every style of pink ballet-shoe-decorated baby gowns available in three counties.

Happy anticipation breaks up the monotony of predictable routine. Having something to look forward to lends excitement to even the dullest day.

Everyone experiences anticipation to some degree, whether a student counting the hours until summer vacation or an expectant mom circling a due date on her calendar. At Mineral Wells Senior Center, we try to give people plenty of things to look forward to.

Some of the events this month include a trip to the State Fair of Texas. We have 32 seats available on a bus that will leave the Senior Center at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, and return by 6 p.m. that evening.
