When I started my new job as Mineral Wells Senior Center director, I suggested to my parents they might like to visit the center now and then. My 83-year-old mother answered, “Well alright, I guess I could volunteer there sometimes.”
I got a similar response from a friend in her 70s. At my observation that she had not yet stopped by to see me at the center, she replied, “Oh I’m not old enough for that place!”
Some people seem to view the Mineral Wells Senior Center as our county’s elephant graveyard. If you happen to think our participants sit dozing in rocking chairs all day, let me adjust your misconception.
