Faith-based recovery program coming to Mineral Wells

By CHRIS AGEE

Walk in Faith Ministries, based in Bridgeport, is expanding to a second meeting location in Mineral Wells next week.

According to Senior Director Alvin Qualls, the 12-step program is similar in certain regards to Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous plans, though the steps are modified to suit the faith-centered ministry.

Many of the individuals involved in the program were recently incarcerated, he said, noting many have benefitted from the unique program since its inception more than a year ago.

“We’ve had almost 60 people come through our program this year and not one has had any discrepancies in their parole steps,” he said, explaining the program is also open to the families of those currently incarcerated.

“We have some that attend just laying a foundation for those ready to come out,” Qualls noted.

Participants have spread the word about the program, he said, and he has received numerous requests to expand to other regions of the state. Beginning with a second location relatively close to the first, he said Mineral Wells was a good fit.

The meetings are held Mondays and Thursdays, 7 p.m., at Pizza Hut.

Qualls said the eatery will serve as the temporary location until the program can attain permanent facilities.

He said those with any type of addiction, or a desire to seek God’s help through a difficult situation, are invited to attend.

“It doesn’t have to be drug or alcohol related,” he said. “We’re open to those who just need spiritual encouragement in getting through tough times.”
