Reflections on the weekend

By Sue Seibert | sue_seibert@att.net

This was a lovely, although physically painful, weekend. On Saturday the Ralph Ripley Chapter of the DAR met at First Christian Church. We planned our meetings and programs for 2012-13, and then we got down to business ... the business of making crosses, or at least decorating them.

Willie Mae Withers Hubbard, one of our most dedicated members, made a couple of dozen crosses from wooden clothes pins. They are wonderful.

Then, with flowers and ribbons supplied by various members, we set to work decorating them and getting them ready to give away for donations next October at the Crazy Water Festival. By the way, if you want one sooner, contact a DAR member. You can see photos on my Facebook page.

  • reflections... on Proper Usage

That phrase was made into a graphic on Facebook by someone who was as tired as I am of the lack of proper spelling, grammar, punctuation and the use of language in general.

  • Reflections on Keeping a Diary

Many of you knew my mother, Rose Ficke Sparks. In fact quite a few of you were taught by her, either at the old junior high that used to be the first high school or at Houston Elementary School.

  • Reflections on Patience

I had a person whom I don’t know well at all tell me what an impatient person I am. My goodness, I didn’t realize it showed so much to those who do not know me very well; but, of course, she is right. I am. They say patience is a virtue. It is, but, sadly, it isn’t one of mine.
