Basketball, flex days & food for the hungry

Food Distribution @ Perrin Advent Christian Fellowship Hall will be Saturday, Dec. 15, from 9 to 11. Enter at North side of church. The third Saturday of each month there will be a canned food distribution at the Advent Christian church 300 S Marks St., Perrin. The food is provided by the County Probation Office and distributed throughout the county. There are no requirements to receive food except it is for people who live in the Perrin area or live in the Perrin-Whitt CISD. For more information, contact Debra Tillery.

Congratulations to the Perrin girls varsity basketball team for winning 1st at the Perrin tournament last week.

The new Flex Days at the school will be Dec 17 - 21. A flex day is a regular-length school day designed to help struggling students. On flex days, students in grades PK-12 who failed their last state test, failed any class for the 1st-5th 6 weeks grading period, served any major punishment during the school year (suspension, ISS, or DAEP), or have more than three excused absences or more than 1 unexcused absence (excluding exemptions to state compulsory attendance days) during the school year will attend school and receive help from teachers. Other students will stay home on flex days. Buses will run at regular time. Absence notes will only be accepted up to seven days after the absence occurred.

The regular Christmas holidays begins Dec. 22 until Jan. 7 when school resumes.

First Baptist Church will have their annual youth Christmas party Dec. 16 from 6-8 pm at the church building. The Youth on Wednesday night Bible study will be focusing on the book of Judges during the month of December.

The Gorman Varsity Basketball Tournament is set for Dec. 13-15. The JV girls will play in the Paradise tournament Dec. 13-15. All teams will play on Tuesday Dec. 18 at home against Bryson. Games will begin at 4 p.m. Then all the teams will play at home Dec. 21 against Nocona. Their final game of the year will be Tuesday, Dec. 31 at home against Windthorst. Games begin at 10 am.

The Junior High basketball teams will play at home against Poolville Monday, Dec. 17 with the games beginning at 4 p.m.

On Jan. 8 there will be a bake sale in the foyer during the basketball games. The junior class is trying to raise money for the Junior/Senior Prom. Donations of baked goods and/or cash are welcome! Contact any junior class member or call the school office.

    Graham Dennis Stowell was born April 9 at 7:54 a.m. at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lonetree, Colo. Graham weighed 5 lbs. 11 oz. and was 18.5” long. His parents are Dennis and Sherri-Jo (Keener) Stowell of Aurora, Colo. Sherri-Jo is originally from Perrin.

    Congratulations to Jack County Spelling Bee winner Kent Withaeger. Kent is in sixth grade at Perrin-Whitt Elementary. He won the Jack County spelling bee on Wednesday, Feb. 13, by spelling the word “pretzel.” Kent will represent Jack County on March 20 at the Regional Spelling Bee, held at Texas Christian University.

    The varsity basketball girls will be going on to the playoffs. I’m not sure when or where they will be playing. Their final regular game will be Tuesday, at Poolville. The boy’s varsity will play their last game Feb. 8 at Ranger.
