Out and About in Perrin: Community cookbooks go on sale; craft show Dec. 3

By Kay Mealio | kaymealio@embarqmail.com

PERRIN – We received almost an inch of wonderful rain Monday. The best thing to see is puddles in your front yard! It is cooler but in a nice crispy way to remind us of the upcoming holiday.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy all your family and blessings the Lord has given you.

The Perrin Craft Show is Friday, Dec. 2, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 3, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The show will be in the old Sitton Garage, on U.S. Highway 281, next door to the Perrin-Whitt school building. There will be homemade craft items, Jen’s Jewels, Avon, Home Interior and much more. There will also be a bake sale and many gift ideas for Christmas. Come and look around and buy from our local Perrinites.

Just what you have been waiting for to get for a Christmas gift – the 2011 Perrin Community Cookbooks, designed by the High School GT class. You may go by the school library to see a copy of the cookbook and to place your order. The cookbooks cost $15 each.

2011-12 Perrin school yearbook sales will be over Nov. 30. The cost is $37 additional books are $5 less each. Contact the school for more information. No extra books will be ordered.

The canned food drive held at the Perrin elementary school for Joseph’s Locker in Granbury was a huge success. Third graders brought the most cans (121) and will be rewarded with a pizza party. The elementary collected over 500 items of nonperishable food items. They did a great job helping make the holidays special for others!

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped support the Krishonda Townsend benefit. A total of $3,906 was raised to help pay for funeral expenses. Any remaining money will go into a trust fund for her son, Haiden, to receive when he turns 18. The following people deserve a special thank you for helping make the benefit a success: Kenny and Amy Salazar, Loren Sell, Carolyn Warterfield, Melanie Parker, Debbie Brock, Stephanie Randall, Junior Salazar, Tina May and Texas artist Clay Shelburn.

Congratulations to the Perrin Junior High One Act Play cast and crew who competed in Chico, Texas. They placed third. Seven of the students brought home individual awards: Samantha Ehlenbach – Honorable Mention All-Star Cast; Jacie Angelly – Honorable Mention All-Star Cast; Mackenzie Lambright – All-Star Cast; Morgan Wade – All-Star Cast; Kylie Burke – All-Star Cast; Zachary Tucker – All-Star Cast; Hunter Francis – Best Crew. Coaches and sponsors were Amye Eudy, Ann Gregory and Joy Easley.

There will be five teams of Perrin FFA students competing in the Area Leadership Development Contest to be held at Tarleton State University in Stephenville. They will be competing in

Senior Chapter Conducting after placing first out of six teams; Junior Chapter Conducting placed first out of five teams; Junior Quiz #1 placed first out of 11 teams; Senior Quiz #1 placed second out of 12 teams; and Junior Creed Speaking placed first out of 15 teams.

I received an email from Emily Jones requesting me to mention the Gordon Arts & Craft Festival on Dec. 10. It is the same day as their local parade and children have the opportunity to have their photos taken with Santa. There will be over 20 vendors at the event and she stated that “it’s a great time to shop local & buy handmade items for Christmas!”

The All Smiles Dental clinic will be at the school on Monday, Nov. 28.

Junior high A basketball girls and boys will travel to Strawn on Monday with the games beginning at 6 p.m. The B girls team will play at Era at 5 p.m. the same day.

On Tuesday, all high school basketball teams’ varsity and junior varsity will play at home against Gorman with the games beginning at 4 p.m. Then the varsity girls and boys will play in the Gorman tournament starting Thursday, Dec. 1, and the JV girls will travel to the Nocona tournament on Dec. 1.

Amy Salazar, principal of Perrin Elementary, has created an online parent survey. To take the survey go to www.surveymonkey.com/s/X358LD8. For any further information concerning the survey, contact Amy at the school at (940) 798-2395, ext. 229.

Thought for the week: Family chatter during mealtime sharings are like songs of joy raised in thankful togetherness.
