PERRIN – It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas with about 1-1/2 inches of snow Monday and several people in town putting up their Christmas lights. We got some rain plus the snow, so we ended up with puddles out in the yard.
It’s been pretty cold. I don’t think it got over 45 degrees Tuesday and today is colder with a sharp north wind. It was a good day to stay inside and drink hot chocolate!
I got a call from Nerita Barefield about her 3-year-old grandson, Brodie Barefield. He came in and asked his mother what she was doing. Since she was reading from her Bible, she thought she’d make this a “teaching” moment and asked Brodie what does the Bible tell him? He thought for a moment and then said, “So.” Sometimes 3 year olds don’t exactly speak clearly, so thinking she misunderstood him she asked him again. Again his answer was, “So.” She said what do you mean? And he answered, “Like the song says, because the Bible tells me ‘so.’”
A graduate of Perrin High School, Arthur Fred Davis, a former Air Force master sergeant, will be buried with military honors at 3 p.m. on Dec. 16 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas. Davis died Aug. 27, 2010. All friends and family are invited to the ceremony. Directions: traveling east on Interstate 20, take the Mountain Creek Parkway exit. Go north on Mountain Creek Parkway about four miles to the cemetery. A guard will give directions to the Public Information Center where all those attending the funeral will gather at 2:30 p.m., 30 minutes prior to the ceremony. An Air Force honor guard will present a flag to his widow, Carolyn Davis, of Rhome, Texas. The playing of TAPS will end the ceremony.
Mr. Davis served during the Vietnam War as an aircraft mechanic and with the Strategic Air Command at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth. His parents were Fred and Mary Davis, longtime Perrin residents. He is survived by a sister, Carol Davis Savage, of Fort Worth; daughter Nita (Jim ) Levy, of El Reno, Okla.; sons, Raylon (Laura) Davis, of Flatwood, and Adam Davis, of Boyd, Texas; and two granddaughters, Kylie and Katie. Mr. Davis’ remains will be interred in a columbarium at the national cemetery.
Congratulations to Samuel Brazeal on being selected for second team all-state honors and earning a spot on the all-district first team at center while also garnering spot on the all-district second team at lineman and utility back. Samuel played on the Community Christian School Warriors team in Mineral Wells.
Don’t forget the 2011 Perrin Community Cookbooks, designed by the high school GT class, are now available for purchase. You may go by the school library to pick up a copy for $15 each.
The Jack County Fair is Jan. 4-7.
Mid-term exams are Dec. 15-16.
Perrin school will have its Christmas break beginning Dec. 19 until Tues. Jan. 3.
Thought for the week: If you could watch my life backwards, you’d see a Jenny Craig success story.
