PERRIN – I’ve finished my shopping, I think. I’ve gone over my list (checking it twice) and every grandchild has a present so I should be good to go.
Now, the big job of wrapping all these gifts and putting them under our tree. Our grandson Jonathan came and helped hang our tree for us. For the past 15 years, we’ve hung our Christmas tree upside down. When we lived in Indiana we saw a TV show that had an upside down tree and it really looked neat and we have hung it that way since. It does cause a little controversy, but it also frees up space around the floor. I wish we had thought of it when our kids were young. We wouldn’t have had to put the tree in the play pen to keep them from turning it over.
At the school they are in the process of cleaning and finishing up the track, they should have the work complete Monday. The striper is scheduled to be there this week. It is extremely important that everyone stay off the track before striping. Once the striping is complete, it will need at least three days to dry depending on the weather. Superintendent John Kuhn will advise us when the track will be ready for use for the community.
Randy Tucker competed Saturday in the USA Powerlifting Holiday Classic in Carrollton. Randy competed in the TII Raw 165-pound class. At this meet Randy broke the USA Powerlifting Texas State Raw records for squat, bench press, dead lift and, total weight. Randy’s lift was squat 155 kg (342 pounds), bench 100 kg (220.5 pounds), dead lift 177.5 kg (391 pounds) and total 432.5 kg (954 pounds). These new records will be posted on their website (usapltexas.org) as soon as the state chair receives all paperwork and the results of all the drug tests. USA Powerlifting is the only powerlifting organization that requires drug testing at every meet to insure high quality but fair competition. Randy is a senior at Perrin. His parents are Janie and Lloyd Tucker, and his dad is the powerlifting coach at Perrin.
Academic UIL Results held on Dec. 8 saw the elementary team place fourth and junior high placed sixth. The varsity girls won second at the Perrin basketball tournament last week. Placing third in the tournament was the Perrin boys.
Perrin school will have their Christmas break beginning Monday until Jan. 3.
The Jack County Livestock show will be Jan. 4-7.
Thought for the week: The best of all the gifts around my Christmas tree is the presence of my wonderful family all enjoying one another.
