PERRIN – We had a fun-filled Thanksgiving holiday, which we extended into several days.
Our son, Marks, and family drove in from Kingston Springs, Tenn., that Wednesday evening. Everyone came to our house for supper then we went to church. Thursday, we all fixed snack type foods in order to be able to watch the Cowboy game. After we ate, most of the younger ones went out in front and played football. We’ve got several pictures posted on Facebook, if anyone is a “friend” and wants to see.
Friday, we had the traditional turkey and dressing with all the regular side dishes. Everyone fixed something and, for my part, I couldn’t have done it without the help of my daughter-in-law, Deanna. When we had the prayer before the meal, my husband Fred asked us all to thank the Lord for something, my 3-year-old grandson, Joshua, said he was thankful for the food, his family and Santa Claus.
The Tennessee bunch left about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday and made it home safe that same night. We thoroughly enjoyed the family gathering with all the good food, conversation and the games. My sister, Jane Cramer, came over from Granbury and was able to stay a couple of days with us. Hannah Brumfield’s fiancé, Travis Ashley, was able to be with us and he “fit” right in and seemed to have as much fun as the rest of us.
The 2011 Perrin Community Cookbooks, designed by the high school GT class, is now available for purchase. You may go by the school library to purchase the cookbook, which cost $15 each.
Perrin school will compete in the UIL meet which will be held Thursday, Dec. 8. Archer City will host through grade six and Windthorst will host grades seven and eight. Medals will be given for the top three individuals and top three teams. Ribbons will be given for places fourth through sixth.
Writing and spelling will be done on Dec. 1. Papers will be exchanged on Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. in Jacksboro. Students are not limited in the number of contests they can compete in, but may only be in two speaking events.
The Gordon Arts & Craft Festival on Dec. 10 takes place the same day as their local parade. Children have the opportunity to have their photos taken with Santa. There will be over 20 vendors at the event that one organizer said is “a great time to shop local and buy handmade items for Christmas!”
Perrin school will have its Christmas break beginning Dec. 19 until Tues. Jan. 3.
Thought for the week: Have you ever noticed how extremely difficult it is for a person to keep his mind open and his mouth shut at the same time?
