Cheers & Jeers

Borrowing from a feature in another newspaper, I would like to offer a “cheers and jeers.”

“Cheers” to the Mineral Wells Rams and Lady Rams basketball programs. Your success this season and post-season in a difficult district is a testimony to your hard work and dedication. Your city is proud of you.

“Jeers” to the parents of local athletes who find it necessary to move their children out of the school district to other programs. We all disagree at times with coaching styles (when it comes to our children, we all know better than the coach, right?). And there are advantages to the recognition that comes from being a “big fish in a small pond.” However, a certain sense of community is lost when good local athletes get “shopped around.” Maybe it’s just a sign of the times, but how can local programs take the next step when this mercenary approach continues to diminish the district talent pool?

Dear Editor:

Several attempts have been made to contact someone in city administration/inspections, trying to get results in a matter which, I believe, affects the well-being of our citizens and our young children. To date, the problems have not been addressed nor rectified.
