J.N. Pruitt

J.N. Pruitt, 77, of Mineral Wells, died peacefully at home on Sept. 17, 2007, after a lengthy battle with cancer and Alzheimer’s.

He donated his body to medical research. A memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at First

Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be given to the First Presbyterian Church, the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.

J.N. was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, singing in the choir, and serving as deacon and elder. J.N. served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was instrumental in reorganizing VFW Post 2399 and served as its commander and quartermaster. He also organized the Military Order of the Cootie (the honor degree of the VFW) in Mineral Wells and served as its commander and later as State Commander.

He was a peanut farmer for several years, helping form the Peanut Cooperative in Millsap and served on the Texas Peanut Producers Board. When he retired from farming he worked as a mechanical draftsman for several industries in Mineral Wells, retiring from Century Flight Systems in 2004.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sally; a daughter Gale and her husband, David Farrell; sons Pete and his wife, Judy, Mike and his wife, Karen, Don and Jerry and his wife, Tammie; a sister, Darlene Letterman and her husband, Doy; brother, Doyle and his wife, Charlene; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
