J.W. Chastain

MINERAL WELLS — J.W. Chastain, of Mineral Wells, 83, died April 28, 2010, in Mineral Wells.

Service is 10 a.m. Saturday, May 1, at the Lone Camp Baptist Church with Rev. Pete Bradfield officiating. Burial will be in the Dobbs Valley Cemetery. Marc, Nathan and Mike Chastain, Greg Macha, Robert Clark and Luke Tefft will serve as pallbearers. Santo Masonic Lodge will provide graveside rites and burial will be with military honors. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Chastain was born Aug. 29, 1926, in Millsap, Texas, the son of Jesse A. and Willie Faye Young Chastain. He attended high school in Santo, Texas. He lived in Liberal, Kan., working for Northern Natural Gas, and he lived in the Midland, Texas area for 30 years, retiring from Enron. He was a resident of Palo Pinto County since 1982 and Mineral Wells since 2006. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Palo Pinto and attended Lone Camp Baptist Church. He was a member of the Santo Masonic Lodge, Granbury Scottish Rite and the Mineral Wells Shrine Club. He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy and was a member of Mineral Wells American Legion Post 75 and Mineral Wells Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2399. He married Jeanette Fallin on Aug. 30, 1947, in Mineral Wells. She preceded him in death in 1987. He married Dorothy Parks ,who preceded him in 1996. He married Betty Boyd Tefft on Feb. 15, 1997, in Fort Worth.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Chastain, of Mineral Wells; sons and daughter-in-law, Gary and Georgia Chastain, of Midland, and Barry Chastain; daughter, Melody Macha and husband, Greg, of Midland; stepson, Gary Tefft and wife, Jo Lynne, of Flower Mound, Texas; stepdaughter, Carole Clark and husband, Robert, of Mineral Wells; grandchildren, Marc, Chad and Nathan Chastain; step-grandchildren, Luke Tefft, Jamie Sandlin and Jennifer Brown; two great-grandsons, Jackson and Carson Chastain; a step-great-granddaughter, Jordan Sandlin; brother, Kenneth Chastain and wife, Jackie, of Mineral Wells; sister, Marcia Williams and husband, James, of Fort Worth; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
