Bruce E. “Rojo” Ficken, 75, an engineer, died Friday, April 30, 2010.
Memorial funeral service is Saturday, May 8, at the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel with Rev. Bobby Williams officiating. A reception will follow the service at American Legion Post 75 where the family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Bruce Ficken was born May 31, 1934, on a farm near Bison, Kan., to Elmer and Mary Seuser Ficken. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1956, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Sigma Tau and Steel Ring Honorary Fraternities and was an ASME lifetime member. He was a registered engineer in the state of Texas.
Upon graduation, he worked for Creole Petroleum Corp, in the Lake Maracaibo Region of Venezuela for 10 years. After leaving Venezuela, he worked for Perry Equipment Corp. for 21 years. In 1987, he joined others and helped found Jonell Inc. in Breckenridge, Texas. He was an officer of this company until his death.
Survivors include his daughters, Patti and Nancy and her husband, Mike; grandchildren, Laura, Shannon, Jeff and Gray; brothers, Warren of Damar, Kan., Dale of Hays, Kan., and Don of Londonderry, N.H.; sister, Bonnie of LaCrosse, Kan.; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clint; and a sister, Ruth.
