SAN ANTONIO —
Rose McCall, 91, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Mineral Wells, died Aug. 26, 2010.
A memorial service is 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at First Presbyterian Church in Mineral Wells.
She was born in Houston on June 30, 1919, to H.A. and Pearl G. Heyck. She was raised in Houston and San Antonio and attended North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, graduating in 1940. She began teaching eighth-grade English in Mineral Wells.
She met and married Dr. James D. McCall, remaining in Mineral Wells and teaching while he was overseas during World War II. After he returned they began raising their family, and she "retired” from formal teaching. She never forgot her teaching roots, however, and constantly corrected her children's grammar for the next 60 years. She loved to read, to dance and visit with her many Mineral Wells friends. She and Don remained in Mineral Wells until June of 2000 when, for health reasons, they moved to San Antonio.
She is survived by her son Mike and his, wife Linda, of Austin; her daughter, Jan and son, David, both of San Antonio; her grandson David, of Austin; and her granddaughter, Michele and her husband, David, Thompson, of Madison, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
The family would like to thank Elida Flores, Simona Hutuleac and Vitas Hospice for their kindness in caring for our mother during the last years of her illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association or the Humane Society.
