She was one of 11 children born to John and Rosa Wolfe in Fairy, Texas, on July 25, 1910. The family moved to Woodson, Texas, when Dixie was 13, where she later met and married her husband, Dave Dodson, when she was 21. They had three children: Dolores, Dave Jr. and Janie.
Dixie was a “doer” and wore many “hats” in her lifetime – cotton picker, babysitter, housekeeper, waitress, saleswoman, bookkeeper, librarian, deer and dove hunter – but most of all she was a wife and mother. She lived a long and full life. At 101 years, she lived through 18 presidents and at least five wars. She went from wagons to spaceships, Model T Fords and the roaring 1920s. She had lots of good times. Dixie was 50-year member of Pythian Temple No. 14. She was a past chief and past president of Temple No. 14. She loved playing dominoes with them until she had to move due to her declining health. Dixie was a charter member of the Resort City Chapter of the National Secretaries Association and Secretary of the Year in 1962. She was a bookkeeper and secretary of the National Palomino Horse Breeders of America for 16 years.
Dixie had her share of sorrows, but it was her deep faith in God that brought her through the sorrows. She was a member of Parker Street Baptist Church for 49 years, where she taught Sunday School and was a church secretary. At the time of her death, she was a member of First Baptist Church. Dixie loved deeply and was always ready to share her faith. She loved the Lord and she prayed for her family and friends. Even at the end, Janie would see her praying in the middle of the night when she could not sleep.
She is survived by her daughter, Janie, and her husband, John Clark; grandchildren, Deneen Clark, John Michael and Brittany Clark, Mark Dodson, David Dodson III, Liza Dodson and Anne Burkett; and her great-grandsons, Jayce Michael and Cayden Lee Clark; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and five sisters; her husband, Dave; her son, Dave Jr.; and daughter Dolores Burkett.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 100 S.W. 4th Ave., Mineral Wells, TX 76067.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.
