Ila Dolena Mitchell Skidmore, 88, of Muscle Shoals, Ala., formerly of Russellville, Ala., died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at Glenwood Nursing Home, Florence, Ala.
A funeral service was held Sunday, Nov. 4, with Bert Fowler officiating. Burial was in Duncan Creek Cemetery, Russellville. A memorial service is 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, for family and friends at First Baptist Church in Oran.
Mrs. Skidmore was a native Texan but had lived most of her life in Franklin County, Ala. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Russellville, where she served as a greeter for many years and was retired from Bell South Telephone Co. with over 30 years of service. Ila was a self-taught artist and received several awards for her paintings. She met the love of her life Lloyd Skidmore at Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells, and moved to Alabama as a new bride.
Survivors include sisters-in-law Jimmie Lou Reynolds, of Russellville, Ala., and Louise Mitchell, of Mineral Wells; brother-in-law Troy Evans, of Fort Worth; nieces and nephews, Wilma Mitchell, Winfred Roden and Kay, Jack and Sandra Pruitt, Robert Dillion, Vida and Charles Manley, Ronny and Martha Mitchell, John and Tina Mitchell, Odes and Sandy Mitchell, Ken and Donna Mitchell, Ann and Bob Dugger, Beverly and Jim Twedt, Alfred and Nancy Evans, Bonnie and Charles West, Wanda and Charlie Simon, of Alabama, and Debbie and Doug Reynolds, of Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Dona Sipe Mitchell; her husband, Lloyd Skidmore; brothers, Neely Mitchell, Preston Mitchell, Melvin Lee Mitchell, Tom Clayton Mitchell and Floyd Claten Mitchell; sisters, Estelle Dillion, Stella Tucker and Mildred Evans; and a niece, Donna Jean Evans.
