GRANBURY – Weldon Harold Hood, 86, of Granbury, Texas (formerly of Mineral Wells) died Feb. 7, 2012, surrounded by the love of his family and caregivers.
A graveside service honoring Weldon's life and celebrating the love of God is 11 a.m. on Satuday, Feb. 11, at Rock Creek Cemetery, north of Mineral Wells.
Weldon was born Aug. 3, 1925, in Rhome, Texas. He moved to Mineral Wells as a teenager and graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1943. He retired from Mineral Wells Independent School District and was also a retired Mineral Wells volunteer firefighter. Outside of his family, his greatest love was golf and the outdoors. He was a Holiday Hills Country Club club champion several times in his lifetime and was a multiple-time member of the “Hole in One Club.”
He is survived by his daughters, Dea Hood Chandler, of Bryan, Texas, and Dawne Hood Phillips and husband, Rodney, and family of Weatherford, Texas; granddaughters, Amanda Baird Rodgers and husband, Ryan, of Midlothian, Texas, Maggie Baird Walton and husband, Griffin, of Fort Worth, and Mallory Baird, of Granbury; great-grandsons, Baird Samuel Walton and Cooper Isaac Rodgers; step-children, Debbie Self Wilson and Donald Self and their families; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Ruthie Mae and Slim Williams; wife, Earlene Hood, in 1979; and by Johnnie Hood, in 2005.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department.
