Patricia M. Burwell

Patricia M. Burwell, 70, of Whitt, died Tuesday March 12, 2013, at a Fort Worth Hospital. Memorial services were Sunday, March 17, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Baum Carlock Bumgardner in Mineral Wells. No viewing or visitation planned.

Patricia was born March 18, 1942, in Allentown, PA, the oldest daughter of Milton E. and Jean Lenker Miller. She graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth.

Patricia attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth participating in the marching band, orchestra and was a soloist on the oboe. She graduated with a Masters in Music. Later she attended Texas Women’s College at Denton earning a Master’s in Library Science.

Patricia married Dallas Burwell in Fort Worth Aug. 21, 1964.

Mrs. Burwell started her library career as a children’s Librarian in Fort Worth. Patricia served as the Director at Boyce Ditto Public Library in Mineral Wells for 35 years, also serving as the Regional Director of the Texas State Library.

Patricia loved helping people and bringing literature to many. In her time in Whitt and Mineral Wells Patricia collected many books and had her own personal library at home. Patricia was responsible for ushering the Boyce Ditto Library into the technology era by converting the card catalog into a digital database.

Mrs. Burwell had a great love for animals and enjoyed listening to classical music. She was fluent in many languages including Russian, German and Arabic. Patricia perused knowledge her whole lifelong.

Above all Patricia dearly loved her family. She had many lifelong friends who she cherished. She never met a stranger. Patricia served as volunteer firefighter alongside her husband at the Adell-Whitt Volunteer Fire Department.

Mrs. Burwell is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister, Carol Goodwin.

Patricia is survived by three sisters: Marjorie Sparrow of Arlington, Jocelyn Daley and husband Michael of Keller, and Kathleen Collins and husband Charles of Fort Worth; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Donations may be made to the Friends of the Boyce Ditto Public Library for the Children’s Section or the Adell-Whitt Volunteer Fire Department.
