Kudos for many in Millsap

 By SHARRON HUDSON

It’s a great time for our area as many from these parts are celebrating various milestones and achievements. Let’s start by congratulating Arnold Garrett on his recent retirement from Millsap Water Supply Corporation.

He has been affiliated with the company for forty-one years and has been the superintendent and maintainer since April 22, 1987. Prior to  taking this position Arnold had worked for Can-Tex, North Rural Water Supply and Parker County Water. Besides his career with the water company Mr. Garrett has built a very successful construction business, Arnold and Son, which is now run by son Jason.  Arnold is from pioneer Millsap stock and has been happily married to Sherry Huddleston Garrett for 42 years. They have raised two sons, Christopher and Jason, both of whom make their homes in Millsap. The water company is hosting a retirement party for Arnold at the Mesquite Pit on Feb. 19, 6 p.m., and everyone is invited to come out and wish the retiree well on this new chapter in his life. If planning to attend call the company’s office at (940) 682-4416, by Feb. 12, for reserving space and checking on costs.  Arnold plans on thoroughly enjoying his retirement with fishing, gardening and helping out with the construction company. Much happiness Arnold in your retirement!

Next for congratulations is Millsap Elementary School teacher Marty Hungate on being the recipient of the 2013 Jackie Harvey Award which is presented through Weatherford College. Each year the institution gives this honor to exemplary teachers throughout our region. Marty is a lifelong learner and has a passion for imparting knowledge to students. Mrs. Hungate is devoted to helping kids succeed. The school district is privileged to have had her work here for the past seven years, as she is such a wonderful asset to the students. Best wishes on this honor Mrs. Hungate.

The Millsap High School FFA Greenhand quiz team recently competed and were  recognized at a school board meeting for honors that they received. The team placed fifth in district, with the members being Ashley Lasenby, Brady Barron, Nathan Poynor, Matthew Collins and Shawn Burger. Ashley and Brady also qualified for the area competition. It was a wonderful time of honors as sponsor Chris Goen explained some of the criteria of the competition and school board members congratulated the students. This is a great extracurricular endeavor as these competitions take much study and prep time, so we wish these young people well as they aspire to succeed in this area.

Bulldog Shredders, a locally owned business, just celebrated a very successful five years in business. The company, which was founded by owners Tony and Carolyn Guess, is made up of state-of-the-art shred-tech mobile units. With the major portion of identity theft being home and office garbage this business provides the service of destructing documents.  The company serves the north central region of the state and is a green company recycling one hundred percent of all paper shredded. In these times this is an essential service and it is fortunate that we have access to it in our post office. We wish Tony and Carolyn continued success and many more anniversaries.

We welcome a new worker to our town in esthetician Jennifer Thurman, who is employed at Joy’s Shear Creations Salon on Fairview Road. Jennifer is licensed in spa facials, eye tabbing and spray tanning. She welcomes appointments or walk-ins and is at the shop Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Hope you enjoy your new job, Jennifer.
