MILLSAP – Folks are getting excited in anticipation of Christmas and all that the season brings. Many Millsap students are especially busy as they prepare for Christmas Programs.
Elementary students will present a musically-themed “This Is Christmas” on Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the elementary cafetorium. There will be a band and choir concert on Dec. 15, 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafetorium. This will include band students in grades six through 12, and the high school choir. The kids have worked very hard on these presentations, and the staff that helps them has put in much effort to make the programs possible. These are sure to be two wonderful nights of entertainment that many look forward to all year long.
Elementary/Public Librarian Billie Hook wants everyone to know that the library will be closed for vacation Dec. 21-Jan. 4. She says to please not return materials to the Millsap Library. Items may be returned to the Weatherford Library or any other Parker County Library Association library. For any questions call (940) 682-3123. Mrs. Hook works very selflessly all the time, so hope she has a great vacation!
Please remember the spaghetti dinner benefit for Rayne Newby. The front page news of his accident in the Index included details of how this youngster can be helped by various donations. But, as he is a hometown boy they bare repeating so we, as his community, can support him and his family as much as possible.
Severely burned, he will need donations of blood given in his name at any area Carter Blood Bank, or at the spaghetti dinner. Gift cards would be a help and can be dropped off in Rayne’s name at Snow, Garrett and Company in the 1200 block of Santa Fe Drive in Weatherford. The family needs funds to meet expenses, so hopefully many will attend the dinner or go by and give a donation.
The dinner is Dec. 5 at Millsap Middle School, 4:30-8 p.m., with a donation of $5 per person. If you plan to attend make reservations on Facebook at “Spaghetti Fundraiser Dinner for Rayne Newby.” We wish Rayne a good recovery.
As there’s a lot of shopping going on for Christmas, sometimes there is need of a unique gift. Here’s one option for the person on your list that likes reading about area people, or books by local authors.
Three books are available through the Abandoned Cemetery Association that are very interesting. Authors Leon Tanner and Mary Kemp present the tale, “A Parker County Texas Cowboy All Over,” and “Boots to Briefcases – Jack Borden.” Both of these works provide an exhilarating bird’s eye view into the lives of two dynamic, locally familiar figures.
The book “Brigadier General Lecil Lee – the Toughest Air Force Commander in WWII” by Lois Johnson presents the story of an extraordinary man, well known to many in Parker County.
The books are $15 each, or all three for $40. If interested call Jo Ann at (817) 682-5331. Any of the books would make a great gift, or just buy one enjoy it yourself and pass it on, with all proceeds helping a worthy cause.
The monthly Millsap City Council meeting proved to be very productive. The regular city business is running very efficiently, and finishing touches were put on details of the Community Christmas Celebration. The Heritage Society, with Larry Walden as spokesperson, presented a format to the council for a Management Board who would manage the Log Cabins and their operation.
The board would have representatives as follows: one from the Millsap City Council, one non-council member appointed by the City Council, one from the Millsap Heritage Society Officers, one non-officer appointed by the Millsap Heritage Society and one from the Millsap schools.
The council was very supportive and receptive of this endeavor, and will address it further at their January meeting. The council members work tirelessly and graciously to take care of the town, and appreciation is extended to each of them.
